Although the physical activities during Navy Hell Week may
seem grueling, many of the trainees maintain that success is about 90%
mental. In fact, most guys are physically ready for the challenges of
Hell Week...otherwise they wouldn't be there. Most guys struggle most
with the brain muscle.
Your safety is your brain's main job. When you're tired, hungry, sore and ready to give up, your brain is more than happy to help you along. So you've got to have a plan in place to keep your brain in line.
Here's the question: How do you get your brain to play along, and live to tell the story of how you endured and survived this wonderful (voluntary) torture? That's simple! All you need to do is get the right brain chemicals sparked and flying off in the right direction.
Increase your mental toughness. Stay calm. Focus. Ignore those distractions that keep you from your ultimate goal.
You must acknowledge any fear and then keep going.
Do this, and you can focus and make better decisions, calling upon all the right faculties to handle the situation at hand.
When you can keep your head in the right place, your will to succeed can have a better chance of making it through . The reality is that only 10 percent of Navy hopefuls are not ready for the physical rigors of Hell Week. This reveals that most of it is mind over matter. So, be alert and stay focused. Be sure that your body is prepared with the right tools, nutritional support and dietary supplements. Your goal is peak performance, not just mere "survival."
Will you be tempted to give up? Yes. Will you give up? Maybe. Sure you can leave. Lots of men do. Many do drop out, but the ones that stay till the end and complete the rest of SEAL training are some of the most elite soldiers that the United States has to offer. This is Navy Hell Week...you in?
